Filipino Marists renwew vows in jail

On 25 March, three seminarians of the District of the Philippines renewed their vows in a simple ceremony in Davao City jail chapel.

Nino Memorial, John Gouwang, and Roque Rebito renewed their vows in the presence of inmates and Marist friends at a Mass led by Philippines District Superior, Fr Larry Sabud.

“We decided to have their renewal in the jail since the inmates have been part of their training for Marist life priesthood,” Marist Formation Director, Fr Chris Ganzon said.

Ganzon explained that as part of their pastoral ministry programme the three seminarians visit the prison inmates each Sunday.

“It was great to do their renewal of vows in the jail,” he said.

“The inmates were very happy to witness the ceremony.”

The cost of a good sermon

The farewell for Chris Skinner’s at St Mary’s last Sunday went very well. Having pocketed a substantial “Holy Picture” from the beloved PP, Chris preached what must have been a blinder and the congregation were so moved that one even asked for a copy of the text.

Chris handed his copy from his pocket only to later discover that his sermon was still in his pocket and the Holy Picture was given away!

Chris is transferring to the Marist Seminary, Auckland, where he will assist in the formation of Marist seminarians training for priesthood.

Profession prayers requested for Marist Mexico novices

The Marist Novitiate in Mexico is drawing to a close and three new Marists will be professed on 31 July. Peter McAfee, the novice master is asking for prayers for these three young men as they begin to make their final preparations for their first profession.
