On July 23 our community had the pleasure of hosting the Profession of Arnold Gafero. Arnold had his Novitiate in 1993 here in Dumalag, but in 1999 he decided not to take his final Profession and left the Society of Mary. However, he kept in touch with the Marists and their ministries in the district of the Philippines and on September 12, 2008 he asked the Superior of the District for permission to re-enter the Society. It was decided that he would live two months here with us in the international novitiate for time to reflect on his desire to become a member of the SM once again. Philip Bennenbroek who entered Marist Seminary, Auckland last year is spending this year as a novice in the International English Speaking Novitiate in Davao, The Philippines.

Japanese-born candidate for the Marist Fathers’ Australian Province, Yoshitake Shiragami, has arrived at the Marist formation community in Auckland.
After spending periods earlier this year in community experience and English language studies at Hunters Hill, Sydney, and Suzaku, Nara, Japan, Yoshi now commences formal seminary studies.
The Auckland community provides for seminarians from Australia, New Zealand and Oceania Marist provinces under the leadership of its Australian rector, Fr Tony Kennedy SM.

The International Formation Committee met at the General House, Rome, this week.
The Committee discussed the International English Language Novitiate now established in the Philippines, and has made recommendations to the superior general regarding the staffing of the International Spanish-Language Novitiate and the International Theologate.
