General Chapter: Today’s World and the New General Team

On Friday morning, the capitulants were engaged in a process of developing possible scenarios for a possible General Team. Each group of six to seven capitulants spent a considerable amount of time in personal reflection and prayer before discussing and outlining possible combinations. These were explained at a plenary session and the rationale for their combinations was given. The new Superior General listened with great interest! A discernment process to commence the process of choosing the General Assistants will begin Monday evening.

The capitulants continued to work in their topic groups on Sunday. Each group has produced a first draft copy of their work and these were presented and discussed at the three plenary sessions throughout the day. A specific interest group with the title of Context and Mission has been created to examine, collate and integrate the work done by the capitulants on Friday morning.

A lengthy session was devoted to considering how the postmodern world is impacting on members of the Society of Mary. The title of the session was: Marist Ministries in the Context of Today’s World.
