St Mary of the Angels Church “supreme” award winner

St Mary of the Angels Church has received the Supreme Concrete Award in ‘recognition of excellence in the use of concrete in building and civil engineering structures more than 25 years old’.

St Mary of the Angels Church was selected from over 80 buildings and structures from throughout New Zealand. The award was presented by the New Zealand Concrete Society at their annual conference.

The award presentation was notable for the high praise given to the architect Frederick De Jersey Clere and Parish Priest of the time, Fr Stanislaus Mahony SM, who took over the responsibility as ‘clerk of works’ when the original contract builder resigned.

Following in the footprints of Stan Mahony, the current Parish Priest Barry Scannell received the award.

St Mary of the Angels is a city church, located in the heart of Wellington city.
