Marist Lettres from Oceania well received by University of Canterbury

On Thursday, 3 September, 2009, the nine volumes of Lettres were well received by the MacMillan Brown Centre for Pacific Studies at University of Canterbury. The Lettres are well on their way to becoming the foremost resource in their field.

John Weir sm, twice a MacMillan Brown Scholar and editor of the Collected Poems of James K Baxter, spoke cleverly intertwining the connections between the Society of Mary and James K Baxter, the grandson of MacMillan Brown, and so showing the fittingness of the Lettres being lodged for public use in this location.

Marists present sang both the Salve Regina and Mo Maria to indicate our heritage and joy at the event. The photographers of the Chronicle of the University of Canterbury recorded the moment. A pleasant afternoon tea followed in high spirits.

All of John Weir’s Literary work is stored at the MacMillan Brown Centre.
