Kevin Mears recently returned from the Chatham Islands where he helped out with the Easter ceremonies.
On Palm Sunday he had a congregation of 2, however on Wednesday, 21 people turned up for Mass to remember Fr Paul Duncan, the last priest to serve full time in the Chathams.
On Good Friday, Kevin took part in a 10km sponsored walk and as a result of people knowing that he was there 32 turned up for Easter Sunday.
Also as part of ministry he delivered scones and pumpkins to various people. He was thanked by one of the parishioners colloquially, “You’re a good bugger Padre!”
Kevin says, “it’s a comment I’ll treasure”.
