Guinea Pig meals “not bad actually”.

Peter McAfee arrived in Mexico in mid-July to join the Marist Spanish speaking Novititate team.

He has spent the first couple of weeks in Peru visiting the home of the prospective novices. In a New Zealand context it all sounds rather simple, however it involved 8 to 9 days of gurelling bus travel through the Andes.

Peter however says he “was compensated by the spectacular views and the warm hospitality.” Included in the hospitality were meat meals of Guinea Pig, which surprised him as “not bad actually.”

He found visiting the homes most worthwhile on several levels and says that he’s already reaping the benefits.

The Mexico province is currently at the Novitiate on retreat. It will end on Saturday with the professions of this years novices. Peter says “It is a great opportunity for me to get the feel of the province and get to know a lot of them. They are very friendly and welcoming.”
