Tri-Nations Triumph for Mission Wine

The Mission 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve won a Gold Medal at the “Invite Only” Tri-Nations Wine Challengemission07reservecabsav

The Tri-Nations Wine Challenge is a rarity because entries are by invitation only, and only the best of Australian, South African and New Zealand wines are selected by the judges to enter the competition.

The Challenge Chairman, Mr Michael Fridjhon commented on the quality of the entries saying: “Chairing the Tri-Nations Challenge is unlike coordinating any other wine competition. For a start, all of the wines on the tasting bench are world-class – they have been selected by the respective countries on the basis that they are potential class winners in their categories.”

While New Zealand may not have won the Tri-Nations rugby competition this year, it did win the annual wine challenge between the three countries, winning eight trophies, 11 double and 10 gold medals. New Zealand judge, Bob Campbell said, “The quality of New Zealand wines entered this year really demonstrates the ongoing evolution of wine quality in New Zealand.”

The Mission Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (85%), Cabernet Franc (8%) and Merlot (7%). It was matured in French oak, 30% of which was new.

The tasting notes say: “This Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep vibrant colour. On the nose there are rich aromas of cassis and tobacco. The palate is medium to full-bodied with nice acidity and a fine structure. The tannins are ripe and the flavours mature. This is a classic ripe Cabernet that has good palate weight. It is a wine with structure that is well balanced; having the potential to age gracefully for five to ten years.

The 2007 Reserve Mission Cabernet Sauvignon is widely available in supermarkets and all good bottle shops. It can also be purchased directly from the Mission.
