5,000 expected at St Pats Church Hill Sydney

More than 5000 Catholics are expected to gather at 2.30pm on Sunday June 26 at a Marist Sydney parish, St Pats Church Hill, to begin the annual Sydney procession of the Blessed Sacrament across town to St Mary’s Cathedral.

Participants in the 2010 Corpus Christi procession from St Pats Church Hill, Sydney to St Mary's Cathedral

Bishop Julian Porteous, auxiliary Bishop of Sydney will lead the procession, during which people will walk, pray and sing together as they travel along Grosvenor, George, Hunter and Macquarie Sts to the Cathedral.

The celebration will conclude at 4.30pm with Solemn Benediction.

Porteous says the procession through the streets of Sydney from began in 2005, has “touched the imagination of Catholics”.

“The procession is an opportunity for us to give a public witness to the fact that Christ wants to be with us until the end of time, and the way he has expressed this is by being truly present in the Blessed Eucharist.”

“The procession is a way of giving thanks to God for the great gift of the Eucharist, expression of our own devotion to the Eucharist, and also a public witness to our faith.”
