Earthquake damaged presbytery remains empty

It seems no decision has been made in regard to the St Mary’s, Manchester St presbytery after the magnitude 7 earthquake hit Christchurch on September 4.

It is taking time to get and evaluate all the information needed to make the decision of whether to demolish or strengthen the old parish house.

If the decision is made to strengthen the building, it will take about a year to complete, so either way it appears that the Marist Community will be living in rented accommodation offsite for the next year and the parish offices might be in rented accommodation near the parish church.
